I believe in a holistic approach to life that encompasses mind, body and spirit. I believe that the human being is multi-faceted, consisting of four main components: the emotional child, the intellectual adult, the physical body and the spirit guide (soul). I believe that to live a truly fulfilling life, we must harness and fully integrate these four components. I acknowledge that for the typical individual, life consists of many aspects. These aspects generally include some or all of the following: personal growth, romance, family, physical health, physical environment, friends/community, career, education, recreation/fun, emotional health, finances and spirituality. I believe that the quality of life is directly proportional to the degree with which we can balance and enhance these often disparate aspects of life. I believe that everyone is capable of, in fact entitled to, a life of happiness, love, peace and fulfillment. I utilize an integrative approach that includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), empathetic listening and mindfulness. Whether you are suffering from an acute mental / behavioral health condition or simple are seeking to make some positive changes in your life I can help. I have over 10 years of experience counseling adults, teens and families in the areas of relationships, trauma, grief, addiction, stress and general mental health. I treat all types of mood and personality disorders including anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorder, borderline personality disorder and many others. I also coach in the areas of career, education, life balance, personal growth and self-realization. I hold a BA in Political Science from the University of Iowa, and MBA from Northwestern University, and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a MA in Professional Counseling from Ottawa University. My formal education and professional experience are complimented by 20 years of personal seeking; including extensive reading, and literally dozens of workshops, seminars and retreats. I am also a certified yoga instructor. In my spare time I enjoy yoga (practicing and teaching), hiking, golf and writing. I am also an active member and volunteer within my faith community. But the real light of my life is time spent with my two young adult daughters.
