My name is Don Maryon. I am a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) contracted with Gilbert Counselors. I received my Bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University, and my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Phoenix.
As long as I can remember, people always seemed comfortable opening up and sharing their stories with me. I began my journey about 10 years ago to gain experience and training to use that gift as a professional calling. I love to facilitate transformational growth while helping others to heal from, or navigate through, the most difficult challenges in their lives.
I have experience working with children, teens, adults, and couples. I am comfortable and confident working with depression, anxiety, trauma, identity issues, grief, life transitions, and relationship issues. I have training and experience using Trauma-Focused CBT, and I rely on core DBT principles including mindfulness. I strive to help each client increase self-awareness and inner strength, while enhancing their personal relationships- to cultivate a natural support system.
I believe in a holistic approach, informed by family dynamics, cultural considerations, and past trauma-- as well as personal values and strengths-- because those factors provide important context underlying the current issues. I collaborate with clients to identify personalized goals for therapy that are motivating and achievable.
The therapeutic relationship is an important factor in successful outcomes. Please be assured that if you choose to meet with me- and for any reason you don’t feel like I am a natural fit—I will be happy to help you find another therapist that meets your needs and preferences.
